What we test, and why it matters in this breed
Cavaliers carry known inherited risks: mitral valve disease of the heart, syringomyelia, eye conditions, and hip and patella problems. Our breeding dogs are screened through OFA evaluations before they are bred, and we keep monitoring them afterwards. Jessie James, the sire of our next litter, has OFA results for heart, eyes and patellas; he has not had a hip evaluation, and we say so rather than imply one.
